Lindahl equilibrium and Schweizer's open club model with semipublic goods

چکیده
In this paper, we extend Schweizer’s open club model to clubs with goods that have a semipublic nature rather than a pure public nature. We study limit core allocations, which are those allocations that remain in the core of a replicated economy. An equivalent notion for open clubs with pure public goods was Schweizer’s concept of club efficiency under a variable number of economic agents. We show that given certain conditions, the equivalence of limit core allocations and Lindahl equilibria holds for a wide range of open club economies with semipublic club goods. We also show that extension to a more general class of open club economies seems implausible. D 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Correlated Equilibrium and the Pricing of Public Goods∗
Lindahl equilibrium is an application of price-taking behavior to achieve efficiency in the allocation of public goods. Such an equilibrium requires individuals to be strategically naive, i.e., Lindahl equilibrium is not incentive compatible. Correlated equilibrium is defined precisely to take account of strategic behavior and incentive compatibility. Using the duality theory of linear programm...

We study a balanced mechanism that is capable of implementing in Nash equilibrium all the Pareto-efficient individually rational allocations for an economy with public goods. The Government chooses a set of weights directly related to the Lindahl prices corresponding to the Paretoefficient allocation to be implemented. The mechanism then guarantees that initial endowments are re-allocated so th...

We study a continuous and balanced mechanism that is capable of implementing in Nash equilibrium all the Pareto-efficient individually rational allocations for an economy with public goods. The Government chooses a set of weights directly related to the Lindahl prices corresponding to the Pareto-efficient allocation it wants to implement. The mechanism then guarantees that initial endowments ar...
متن کاملEfficiency with Non-Convexities: Extending the “Scandinavian Consensus” Approaches
There are two distinct “Scandinavian consensus” approaches to public good supply, both based on agents’ willingness to pay. A Wicksell–Foley public competitive equilibrium arises from a negative consensus in which no change of public environment, together with associated taxes and subsidies which finance it, will be unanimously approved. Alternatively, in a Lindahl or valuation equilibrium, cha...
متن کاملCollective Action in an Asymmetric World
A central authority possessing tax and expenditure responsibilities can readily provide an efficient level of a public good. Absent a central authority, voluntary arrangements must replace coercive ones, and significant under-provision must be expected. International public goods are particularly challenging due to the substantial asymmetries among nations. Small-interest nations have strong in...
